Congrats to Joe Flaherty Jnr and Sarah Trudgett for winning the Mens & Ladies Singles titles repsectively. Unfortunately for the Carney household they beat Jimmy & Kim in the finals respectively.
Essex Ladies lost to Hampshire Ladies in the Ladies team final having previously won in a nailbiter against "East London" which went to a deciding frame.
In the Seniors Singles final "East London's" Mickey Turner lost to England Seniors Captain Lee Stephenson. Mickey went onto collect a hat trick of runners-up spots when East London lost to Cambridge & Bucks (I think) in finals of the Seniors Team and the "A" team event. East London were severly hampered in these finals becasue the two finals were played alongside of each other on adjacent tables with players coming off on e table and jumping straight on to another without time to compose themselves.
Other notable moments of the weekend were:
1. Having no water on Friday morning in the caravan cos the pipes were frozen.
2. Yardie being ejected from the singles when a wrong call was made against him in the deciding frame. Having being given two shots and players refereeing their own matches Yardie picked up the white to play from baulk and his opponent asked for a referee and said that Yardie had not asked for the white to be moved and so called a foul. The referee agreed with "his mate". Actually if it was a foul then it was a serious foul and loss of frame but why leave it to the deciding frame to call a foul against Yardie when in earlier frames the same had happened but no foul was called.
3. Me winning money by getting to the last 8 of the seniors singles where I lost to the eventual winner when I couldn't buy a frame in the B team or Seniors team round robin matches. Tony Arnold also lost in the last eight. Had we both won we would have met in the semi-final with me winning easily before losing closely to Mickey T in the final.
& 4. Tony Snr doing his Edina impression which had us in stitches with tears running down our faces. No doubt edited highlights coming to YouTube shortly via Turtle promotions. As a clue Edina is short for "Ed in a" bucket!
