Barking League : Proposals for BDPL AGM
Posted by Yoda on 2008/11/18 16:39:22 (7 reads)

Tuesday 2nd December at Barking.

PROPOSALS FOR BDPL 2009 AGM

FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS
1. The league agrees that the entry fee per team is increased by £20 to £100 which includes £95 to the league and £5 for the charity cup known as the Darren Henshaw Memorial Shield.
Proposed by Committee.
2. The league agrees that whilst the trophy remains the Darren Henshaw Memorial Shield the funds raised will be donated to a charity at the discretion of the committee and reported back to the league when appropriate. The league will also hear suggestions from Delegates as to which causes may be considered.
Proposed by Phil Marvin

PLAYING RULE AMENDMENTS (PRA)
1. The league agrees to adopt EPA World Rules in their entirety. – If accepted ignore 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6.
2. The league agrees that the playing rules remain unaltered for all teams in all divisions. . – If accepted ignore 3, 4, 5 & 6.
3. The league agrees that teams from the lower divisions will play a different set of rules to those played in the premier division in league matches. – If rejected ignore 4 & 5
4. The league agrees that the Premier Division adopt EPA World Rules whislt the lower divisions remain with the current rules (Old EPA). – If rejected ignore 5.
5. The league agrees that any match featuring a side from the Premier division and a side from the lower league will play the rules played in the league by the team from the lower division.
6. The league agrees that at the commencement of a frame the “World Rules Break” is adopted.
(A) On the break 4 object balls must hit a cushion or an object ball is potted.
If the cue ball is potted the table remains open and the oncoming player has only one visit. If insufficient balls hit a cushion or if a ball comes to rest off the playing surface then the oncoming player has an open table and two visits. The first colour potted is deemed to be the ball “on”.
If an object ball is potted from the break the player still in control of the table has the option to choose either colour. HE/SHE MUST NOMINATE TO THE REFEREE WHICH COLOUR HE/SHE CHOOSES. If Player A only pots a yellow on the break he may wish to nominate reds and he must pot a red with his next shot to remain on reds. If only a yellow is potted on the break he may nominate yellow but is not required to pot a yellow on the next shot for him to remain on yellows. Thereafter for the remainder of the frame the existing rules remain (Old EPA).
(B) As above but also including that before or after contact the cue ball or an object ball must hit a cushion. (If the object ball is touching a cushion then another ball must hit a cushion before or after contact.)
PRA 1-6 Proposed by Jamie Joyes

7. If the above proposal is accepted the league agrees that
(A) This applies to all divisions,
(B) This applies to the premier division only and the lower divisions remain as before,

8. Immediately before commencement of the singles frames, after completion of the card the two captains or their representative toss a coin to see who breaks in the first frame. Alternating breaks will follow.
Proposed by Richard Green, BPC Sharks

9. The duration of pairs matches both in the league and knockout competition is extremely tiresome. To alleviate this it is proposed that during any pairs competition partners cannot consult with each other from the moment that the balls come to rest after their opponents visit until their own visit is over. The only exception to this is immediately following the break when partners can confer to decide which object colour to play.
Proposed by Phil Marvin

LEAGUE AND TEAM STRUCTURE AMENDMENTS (LTS)
1. The league agrees that a deadline is set at the three quarter point of the season at which point a team may not sign any new players.
Proposed by Alan Pointer

2. The league agrees that the structure of league and cup matches remain unaltered.
Proposed by Tony Hawkins, BPC Sharks & Mark Layton, BPC Outcasts.

3. If PRA 1. is accepted then the league agrees that a team remains with a maximum of 12 registered players as before but league matches will consist of 6 singles and three pairs reducing the number of required players per team to a minimum of 6 players to complete a fixture.
Proposed by Jamie Joyes

4. If PRA 4. is accepted then the league agrees that the Premier Division league matches will comprise of 12 singles and no pairs and consist of 2 sets of 6 frames in which any player can play in either set OR 12 singles consist of 2 sets of 5 frames and 1 set of 2 frames which any player can play in a maximum of 2 sets.
Proposed by Jamie Joyes

5. If LTS 2 is rejected then the league agrees that league matches for divisions 1 & 2 will comprise of 6 singles and 3 pairs frames thus reducing the number of required players per team to a minimum of 6 players to complete a fixture.
Proposed by Jamie Joyes

6. In contradiction to LTS 3, LTS 4 & LTS 5 the league agree that to deleted the pairs league and instead play 10 singles with no player playing more than one frame in a match.
Proposed by Mark Layton, BPC Outcasts.

7. In contradiction to LTS3, LTS 4 & LTS 5 the league agrees that no player playing more than one frame in a match.
Proposed by Tony Hakwins, BPC sharks

COMMITTEE AND MEETING AMENDMENTS (COM)
1. The league agrees to the creation of an official website (without forums) to display all results, fixtures, statistics and league tables.
Proposed by Jamie Joyes

2. The league agrees to the appointment of new position on the committee to handle the above and to liaise with the divisional secretaries to obtain the date required wit h regards results. They will also need to liaise with the local media to promote the league throughout the year
Proposed by Jamie Joyes

3. The league agrees that delegates should have the option of opting out of meetings as long as valid and active e-mail addresses have been provided.
4. Proposed by Richard Green, BPC Sharks

5. The league agrees that Delegates meetings are held every 2 months on Wednesday evenings. As all information regarding League Tables, stats and competition draws to be available to download online.
Proposed by Jamie Joyes

6. If COM 1. Is accepted then a team failing to send a delegate to a meeting will be fined £20 up from the current figure of £10.
Proposed by Jamie Joyes

7. After each meeting there is a K/O competition for all attending delegates that may wish to enter.
Proposed by Jamie Joyes
There were other requests that were submitted to be included as proposals that are not required to be voted on such as the choice of trophies and their suppliers, the issuance of league handbooks, the scheduling of all K/O competitions.
There was also a proposal that all committee expenses are audited. This matter has been referred to the League Treasurer to comment on in his financial report at the AGM.

Competitions : Carney Wins First staging of new Comp!!
Posted by turtle on 2008/10/22 11:50:58 (10 reads)

First of all a great turn out on the day and all turning up in the time required by the runners of the comp ensured the draw was done on time.

Highlight of the draw was the Tony Arnold Snr drawing himself out in the same group as Rob Hill,Mick Turner and Sean Hayden thus providing us with an early rendition of throwing the toys out of the pram.

With so many quality players big names were bound to fall at the first hurdle the group stage and during this we had a few of the penalty shoot outs and yes there were a few twitches with K.Hawkins being the first player to fall foul doing his own version of John Terry having a huge twitch on the deciding shot.

The first 8 players to bite the dust and straight home with tail between legs were:T.Arnold Snr,J.Martin,N.Lawrence,I.Fountain,K.Hawkins,P.Marvin,K.Stirling and M.Weekes.
Then followed tense times to work the mathes and announce the eight runners for the uefa cup (plate) comp who were:S.Hayden,L.Boyce,L.Morris,M.Layton,C.Heim,A.Hoffman,M.Holden and J.Stirling in which M.Holden triumphed over S.hayden to take the uefa cup title.

Back to the Champions League main and the tie of the round was R.hill vs S.trudgett and rob looked in control only for sarah to battle back to win 4-3 match of the day i will say.

With the elimination of Y.Gormatti,M.stirling and others it was onto the 1/4 finals steve townley put an end to sarah's glory trail to set himself up in the semi's against c.digby and on the other half of the draw J.carney was cruising his way thru the rounds and dispatched the in form tony wilson with ease.

Both Craig and Jimmy(picture 1) sailed thru to the final in there sami's but it was Jimmy carney who whitewashed his opponent to take the title and £200 cash all in all it was a fun event and it was finished in good time and hopefully this is just the start and it could be a regular event with wider audience and participation.

Thanks

Interleague : Elite back home on Saturday Night!
Posted by Dutchy on 2008/10/4 23:10:00 (0 reads)

Barking Elite this weekend ventured back to Vauxhall Holiday Park, Great Yarmouth for the 2008 Interleague K.O Finals, after arriving on the camp we had to find our caravan, Eaglet aka Sean Hayden and now the new Barking Elite Captain(until it’s time to pick the team) managed to get all the Elite players in caravans next to each other which was a bonus but we was so far away it seemed as though we was in the next campsite down the road, The No.2 has a lot to learn. Dutchy myself for the very first time at the Yarmouth finals was on the wagon, alcohol free, Friday night and a lot of very drunk people made me realise what non drinkers have to do all the time.. avoid pissheads, ar’nt they annoying when your drinking bottled water.

On with Saturday match day, and no hangover, how very strange. We was in a round robin group of three, Wigan and Brighton had to go into battle first, Wigan being the favourites to win the group by Tom Fahy the tournament organiser managed to win 12-6, so it was left to Elite now to play the losers Brighton. Youseff got things underway and after a shaky start lost the first frame, but that was the last time we was behind in the match, one thing I noticed back with mainly the Lamb team was the team spirit was far better than their league matches have been, perhaps Paul Coulburn, Alan Gosling and myself in the team may have had something to do with this, it was good to see Keith Hannon back on form doing what he does best on and off the table although it may of affected Steve Benjafields two dollys on the black he had in one frame, sadly Alan Gosling who was the player that got Barking Elite to the finals had a day on the sidelines, it’s lucky he had Jon Runghen to keep him company. Elite eventually only managed the same scoreline as Wigan and beat Brighton 12-6, when I look back there was many games thrown away.

So onto the crunch game in the group, it was only ever going to be against Wigan and Elite and again it was the Barking team that got of to a bad start, this time Steve Benjafield losing, things went from bad to worse as Elite went 4-1 down with on form Andy Holland the only winner, but Elite had a strong backline and wins from Terry Elliott, Sean Hayden and Justin Young sent Elite into the second set of nine just 5-4 down, we then lost the first two frames of the second set to fall 7-4 behind, it was now Elite kicked into gear and raced into an 8-5 lead, with victory in our sights the wheels started to fall off and found ourselves 9-8 down with Paul Colburn going on last to try and get us into a three man play off, with a bit of form Paul managed to do what he does best under pressure and took out a lovely clearance.

The three man play off, this was a tough one to call, eveyones view was that Andy Holland and Keith Hannon had to play, the question was who was third man, Sean Hayden got the nod and it was his game that was over first as the Wigan player I think cleared up was seemed like from his first visit, so one down, Keith game looked like it was going to be a marathon. Myself was playing against Ian Davenport, Wigans No.1, a very good player, he went in off and gave me two shots in which I got down to my last two balls before the black, didn’t come high enough on my last red and could only manage to cover a hole, Ian put me in trouble and I had to give him two shots which he took out very calmly.

So Elite out in the first round, overall when I look back we threw far too many games away in the round robin stage and should never of gone into a play off situation, I felt good on the day winning four from four in the round robin stage, didn’t keep count on how the rest of the boys done but I’m sure I was top dog on the day.

News was filtering through that our other Barking team The Phoenix also fell at the same hurdle.

So what now for Barking Elite, do we need another break? Rumour has it a new Interleague could be starting..

Have to say though I enjoyed the weekend and it was good to be back with my old mates from the Lamb even if they were barracking me all day long.

I’d like to give Alan Gosling a mention again, well done for turning up, even though you didn’t get a game it was good to have you around.

Players Ratings on the day:-

Andy Holland 9/10
Terry Elliott 7/10
Keith Hannon 5/10
Sean Hayden 5/10
Paul Colburn 5/10
Justin Young 4/10
Danny Downes 3/10
Youseff Gormati 2/10
Steve Benjafield 2/10

This is Dutchy signing off, back home on Saturday night from the finals, sadly no pics from the weekend as I was camera less.
